Bodum is a company long synonymous with coffee. From their ever popular lineup of press pots (French presses, or “bodums”), to the long running line of vacuum brewers, to a wide range of cups, saucers and service items, the company defines “coffee” for many people.
Not only that, but Bodum also defined a certain “style” with coffee – so much so that their products and server ware have been featured on countless television shows and movies. Their look is often so avant guard that television shows such as Star Trek: Next Generation and Babylon 5 even featured Bodum products as an example of what future beverage cups would look like.
When it comes to espresso, the company had no presence for some time. This started to change a few years ago when they introduced a few moka pots to their lineup – today, they have several styles, including an electric moka pot and several plastic / metal models for the stovetop, bringing them somewhat into the arena of “espresso” (moka pots produce a strong coffee, not espresso).
But espresso, true espresso, was an area the company hasn’t tackled until late last year. Bodum rolled out their Bodum Granos Automatic espresso machine, first showing it off at trade shows, then providing a limited rollout through retail vendors.
The machine is a literal work of art – all shiny metal, curves, domes, wide surfaces yet a slender look. It’s also an automatic in a field where automatics are few and far between (the consumer, single boiler, vibe pump espresso machine market – there are fewer than a half dozen machines fitting this category for “automatics”).
Will the company that many feel is synonymous with coffee also succeed in the world of espresso? Our Detailed Review will know for sure, but for now, we present you this first look based on the Bodum Granos Automatic espresso machine, provided to us by 1st in Coffee. Enjoy the First Look.
