The hills of Silverton teem with a vibrant eccentricity analogous to the hipster epicenters of Brooklyn and Portland. In the midst of counter-cultural eclecticism smack center on Sunset Boulevard is the colorfully welcoming Dayglow coffee. With a minimal, bright aesthetic the shop’s cheery mood is complemented by artisan doughnuts and chipper baristas.

Catering to a dazzlingly bohemian clientele, the coffee selection at Dayglow matches the diversity of incoming tastes. Upon inquiry of their bean selection, their staff modestly display one stellar offering after another. Rotating noteworthy international & domestic roasters such as Coffee Collective, La Cabra, Nomad Coffee, Square Mile, and beyond are all simultaneously available for consumption.

The baristas are highly personable in their description of origins and methods. With infectious enthusiasm, they are happy to pinpoint flavor notes and experiment with brews. The sparse seating arrangements and immersion with the street life only increase the convivial atmosphere. Dayglow feels less like a caffeine transaction center and more passionate meeting grounds.

The shop’s online presence reflects its ideology. The stunning array of beans that pass through their doors are available for subscription service or individual purchase. Upon membership, subscribers are granted access to an online discussion board encompassing all forms of coffee methodology.

The owner Tohm Ilfergan’s groundwork for such a communal ethos arose while touring as a drummer with his band Of Indian Lakes. Parallelly fascinated by coffee, he sought out to share the assortment of roasters he sampled globally. His laid-back shop positions coffees with no pretence, more focusing on social enjoyment. Coffee cocktails, all quirkily named for Wes Anderson movies, are for sale, as are classic milk-based offerings, teas, and tonics.

Stepping into Dayglow delights with a rejuvenating positivity. More than simply selling drinks, the shop beams with an open-minded appreciation of who or what passes through their doors. There’s no better LA shop to lighten the day.
