Water should be pre-heated first on stove or in microwave oven since this uses an alcohol burner for heat source and it would take cold water a while to come to boil with using just the alcohol burner. Alcohol burner when in use should not be close to a drafty area or close to ceiling fan.

You can use denatured alcohol (same as fondue fuel) Comes with everything needed such as the fuel burner (fuel not included) wick, spoon, lid, filter, chain and instructions. Includes original box as well. This is a very cool design and would be great decor as well as a super gift for a friend or loved one. Glass is thicker than most vacpots,especially compared to most of the vintage vacpots. I enjoy making a pot of decaf in the evening with one of these before retiring for the nite. Clean-up is easy and quick,cloth filters can be rinsed under warm running water. Virtually no sediment left behind in the lower pot after brewing completed.
