These device are built to last - mine has seen daily use for 14 years, and was used for ?? years before that. Excellent coffee.

Detailed Commentary
I bought this device at a yard sale in the Gatineaus back in 1986. I've made a pot of coffee with it almost every day since then, and it is still going strong. Finding filters for it was very difficile but my wife (praise her!) decided to make me some several years back by sewing together some broad cloth with felt cloth, and contriving a circular finished piece with tie string. I have 70 of them now, and I go through one every two months. I keep in the refridgerator in a glass of water between use.
The coffee is superb, and I use it on the self-stove it come with, which get very hot but with care is safe to use. I am well known for my coffee, and this Silex is why.
This vacuum brewer is about 50 years old I guess, and it has a lot of use before I bought it. I cannot believe how much a long life this device has.
I paid $15 CAD for it at the yard sale. Worth 10 times that much or more for what it has given me.
