I got a Santos in February 2007. Within a month or two, after completing the brew cycle, the heating element began to tigger spontaneously and boil the coffee. This would almost always result in the coffee spilling over to the kitchen counter. This did not occur very frequently, and because I had wanted this machine for so long, I decided it was an annoyance I could live with.
In early October 2007, this happened again. This time the coffee boiled over, seeped into the base, wet the circuitry, and shorted out the unit. Now it doesn't work.
Shortly after, I emailed Bodum. Their website said that they would try to respond within 48 hours. After about a month of not hearing back, I emailed them again. The "customer service" guy said I had to have a receipt or pay for the repair or replacement myself. After 9-10 months, I don't have the receipt.
I probably should have contacted them right away, but my failure to maintain records should not excuse them from standing behind their product. Subsequent online research has shown that this boiling over defect is fairly common. Based on my experience with this machine and company, my recommendation is DO NOT buy this product. If you do, there's a good chance you will be disappointed. |
