There are two coffee brewing methods every coffee drinker should consider obtaining. A French Press and a Moka Pot. Both make excellent coffee and are fairly inexpensive.
The Moka Pot is the worlds most popular coffee maker and every day 150 million cups of Moka are made, according to the Bialetti website. Someone must like it! Seriously, this makes an excellent pot of strong smooth black coffee. Its fairly easy to make, once you go through a few brewing cycles and fnd what works for you. I have the aluminum pot which I prefer. Its attractive, classical, and heats quickly. Sometimes I pre-heat my water and then put it into the Moka pot to speed up the brwing and other times just use cold water. Both seem to work well. I have the 6-cup which is the perfect size for 1 or two people. First time I made a pot I drank the whole pot. Thats a lot of caffeine so take it easy. But it was so good it was hard to put the cup down.
Using it a few times your find what works best for you. Its a near fool--proof way of making coffee but it does take some interaction, watching the pot as it heats and the coffee comes out. Keep the heat as low as you can without prolonging the brewing process.
About two weeks after buying my Moka pot from Amazon, I found one in a second hand store for $3.50 -- grabbed it quickly. It wasnt a Bialetti, it didnt have the little man on the side and no name anywhere on the pot. But otherwise worked the same as my Bialetti Moka Express. Now I have two!
If you dont have a Moka Pot, I would really advise getting one. If the coffee is too strong for your preference you can add milk or add more hot water for a more traditional North American taste. I really like my Moka Pots and dont plan on giving them up. Many Moka Pots become family heirlooms, the more you use it the better the Moka tastes.
