I'm surprised that Kitchen Aid put out such a poorly designed and manufactured piece to represent their top of the line grinder.
Positive Product Points
Appears well made and sturdy. Has a nice presence on the counter top.
Negative Product Points
Has a few poorly designed features....such as the bean feed process....and employs some questionalble - quality parts.
I'm on my second unit of this product. Purchased the first at WS, used it for a week and had it fail. A small metal pin in the burr drive mechanism became disfigured ...rendering the grinding process a total failure. WS was very good about exchanging the unit for another. The second unit has performed acceptably for the last six months. Upon close inspection of the internal parts that one can easily observe, there appears to be an overall lack of quality and precision to them. For $200.00, I expected to find a more finely engineered and manufactured product.
WS has always been a great store to do business with in my experience.
Three Month Followup
Everything seems allright with the replacement unit.
One Year Followup
Had to return the original unit to the store I bought it from, due to a broken internal part. The replacement unit has performed flawlessly over the ensuing year. I would raise the over-all rating to a 7 or 8 now.
