Bottom Line: Great step up from rotary-blade grinder.
Positive Product Points

Produces great grind for press-pots, and is a wonderful first step up into the world of burr grinders.

The grind I get is more even than what other reviewers seem to have experienced.

Negative Product Points

Seems to be a little fussy: on grind settings anywhere below "drip", I have to actually press the bean hopper down to make the grind mechanism start. I don?t think it is *supposed* to act like this.

There might be some wider than-normal-variance of the quality/performance of this unit from the manufacturer.

Detailed Commentary

After reading the coffee faqs on this site and learning how important the grind is to the coffee I did some looking around for a decent bur grinder, and the bodum santos was the most convenient for me to purchase (at target, $65) and since this website recommends this grinder (although, it is the lowest-end grinder this site recommends), I picked it up.

I have primarily been preparing press-pots, and I have the feeling that this unit was designed primarily for use with press-pots, as bodum doesn?t produce any drip or espresso machines (other than that stove-top "thing"). Little wonder, then, that with this grinder, a press pot and fresh Celebes, I?ve been making some of my best coffee.

Even though I?ve been quite pleased with the Santos, I look at it as a stepping-stone to an even better grinder. The $65 was certainly well spent to demonstrate to myself the great importance of the grind.
