Grinders: Bodum Antigua Grinder
Previous Product Grinders Next Product

The Bodum Antigua grinder is a good "starter" grinder using conical burrs. It can grind from a medium espresso grind up to a coarse drip pot grind, and a passable press pot grind. There are two models - normal, and metal.

Douwe Dijkstra (quality: 5.0) 11.05.2000 Rating: 8.4

Thomas Bafia (quality: 9.0) 06.03.2001 Rating: 7.2
Bottom Line: Not a great grinder, but a good one. A step up from a whirly blade grinder.
John (quality: 5.0) 06.05.2001 Rating: 9.2
Bottom Line: Excellent grinder for french press.
Chris (quality: 6.0) 06.25.2001 Rating: 6.8
Bottom Line: If you are willing to modify it, it will work just fine for filter drip, vac, and press.  Useless for espresso.

Bottom Line: Good introductory burr grinder
Roger Grantham (quality: 4.5) 09.03.2001 Rating: 6.8
Bottom Line: Great step up from rotary-blade grinder.
Bob Lutz (quality: 3.3) 09.07.2001 Rating: 5.6
Bottom Line: ok if you have a pressurized portafilter and can use a coarser grind. Spend more and get something better.
Darren (quality: 4.8) 09.24.2001 Rating: 6.8
Bottom Line: Large capacity for home use.  Static scatters coffee everywhere.
Will Taylor 12.04.2001 Rating: 6.4
Bottom Line: Hard to beat for $60, but only for coarse grinds.
Phillip Quattrocchi (quality: 6.8) 02.08.2002 Rating: 5.2
Bottom Line: Its a good starter or upgrade for your first burr grinder.
Steve S (quality: 7.0) 02.27.2002 Rating: 8.0
Bottom Line: It works and the heart of the unit is quite solid.  It deserves an 8 overall.
Alan Smith (quality: 7.2) 08.15.2002 Rating: 5.2
Bottom Line: False economy, expect to replace it in a year.
Russell Malm (quality: 6.0) 05.31.2003 Rating: 8.6
Bottom Line: Great, uniform, static free burr grinder for drip, french press, vac pot and chemex.
Ron Eric Edrosa (quality: 7.5) 06.24.2003 Rating: 7.0

Bottom Line: I may pay $30 for this machine, but no more...anything more, and I would consider upgrading to something better.
Michael Stano (quality: 6.0) 01.16.2004 Rating: 6.8

Bottom Line: Like the stainless steel, but one unit broke, and replacement unit clogs.
Vic Lam (quality: 8.0) 05.17.2004 Rating: 7.2
Product Reviewed: Antigua
Bottom Line: Versatile, barely passable for espresso after modification.

Bottom Line: One weak link makes this a short-lived grinder
Andrew _ (quality: 8.0) 11.27.2004 Rating: 7.2
Product Reviewed: Antigua
Bottom Line: This is good for non espresso purposes such as drip, press, and moka pot. Works fine as a secondary grinder.

John T (quality: 5.0) 06.02.2008 Rating: 8.2

Bottom Line: Great product, but do NOT buy this machine if you want it for espresso - it produces a coarser grind than did its older Antigua brother.
Stuart Rennie (quality: 8.0) 05.29.2009 Rating: 7.4
Product Reviewed: Bodum Antigua
Bottom Line: It sounds like 2 angry Ninja's dueling to the death over the lost scolls of Tu-Pei (whatever that means).
Jeff Greenberg (quality: 9.0) 08.14.2009 Rating: 3.2
Product Reviewed: Antigua
Bottom Line: Poorly made, no manufacturer support.
Joel Schulz (quality: 9.5) 12.24.2009 Rating: 5.8
Product Reviewed: Antigua
Bottom Line: BODUM TAKES TOO LONG TO RESPOND BUT THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SUPERB AND COMPASSIONATE. Thin bitter espressos are the norm for this non performer. Box states otherwise.
