The plastic ring that holds the upper burr grinder cracked. I called Baratza and they sent me a new piece immediately. They didnt ask how it broke or whether or not my grinder was still under warranty. I was very impressed with their service and would buy from them again because of it.
The build quality is decent for this price range. Nothing to blow you away.
-wont grind flavored coffee. it clogged both times i tried. Oh well, I hate the stuff anyway.
Detailed Commentary
This was actually my first grinder. I got into coffee at college and for the most part drank my friends coffee. They used blade grinders and when I started buying my own equipment, I went with a conical burr grinder. The difference was quite noticeable.
The Baratza is extremely simple to use. I really like having 40 different grind settings. Sounds like overkill, but it allows you to slowly add a couple of clicks each time you brew until you feel your grind has reached perfection. The consistency is excellent. One thing ive noticed is that there is never any sludge in the bottom of my Bunn drip pot. This wasnt the case with the blade grinders.
