Bottom Line: Consistently EXCELLENT brew, Intuitive, Beautiful, Hot for hours
Positive Product Points

Perfect coffee every time comes from this cutting edge styled Japanese machine. My coffee stays hot for hours without getting bitter.  Zoji uses an all steel thermal carafe with no glass lining to shatter. This machine is easy to use and easy to clean.  I experiece no leaks and no grounds in my coffee. The carafe lid is no problem at all, if you do not feel compelled to line up the closing dot exactly. Leave the lid an eighth or so turn looser, barely finger tight, and it takes no effort at all to open it. My Zoji has become a member of the family.

Negative Product Points

No Negatives, only a Wish list: Color choice - I would have preferred an option to buy this in white.  I would have liked a  battery backup for the clock and a  larger capacity machine. You will find yourself brewing additional pots, excellent coffee is consumed  more quickly. .

Detailed Commentary

First and foremost this makes consistent, excellent coffee. I have owned and enjoyed my Brauns for 20+ years, and owned other less liked brewers like Gavalia thermal, Krups, Las Bombas, Bodum press as well as  various espresso/cappucino makers.  My Zoji is the best of the lot for taste, ease of use, ease of clean up. The very first time I used this, I neglected to move the shower back over the beans. That has been the only screw up I have had with this machine and it was my fault.
Thelong  lid, which covers not only the water reservoir, but also the coffee grounds,  is hinged on its short side, allowing it to swing high above the machine. This is an exceptionally tall brewer with the lid open; 24.25 inches, if you are measuring your counter space for cabinet clearance. I suspect engineeers were madly cutting vertical space when they shaved the coffee basket area's height, resulting in the No. 4 filters extending a quarter inch or so above the lid.  I use off-the-shelf, disposable filters without modification. Since the lid closed vertically, the extra filter length has no impact, as opposed to a brew basket on other companies' machines that swing  in and out horizonatally, making filter length a more critical issue.
The LED clock and control panel is very similar to a Braun I owned many years ago. The panel is functional and simple, but after all these many years, no longer has that cutting edge look to match the rest of the Zoji design. I also wish the clock and program had a battery backup in this part of the country withf frequent electrical interuptions.
I would have preferred a choice to purchase this in whiterather than  the black so I could more easily see inside the machine. This is a personal preference that would be helpful in my kitchen because of the machine height and counter placement.

Buying Experience

Excellent. I paid a bit more than an online purchase, but I got instant gratification. We supported a much-needed local, kitchen/chef supply  store. My local store promises across-the-counter exchanges, something which I value.
