Detailed Commentary
I had very high hopes for this coffee maker. After reading all of the positive reviews and spending $230.00, I "knew" I was purchasing the best coffee maker made. It was only after a few weeks of use that I came to the realization that I was not happy with the brewed coffee. The most serious and absolutely critical design defect is the shower head which does not distribute hot water evenly over the grounds. The resulting "puddle" means that most of the grounds are not in contact with the water. Stopping the brewing and stirring the grounds, as others suggest, is not only awkward but does not resolve the problem since the remaining brew cycle is dropping the water on the center of the grounds. The lack of an automatic off switch or a brew interruption switch as well as the poorly designed brew basket shows incredibly poor engineering. In the end, the only positive feature on the machine is an extraordinarily powerful and well built boiler. That just isn't enough for me and I am back using my Chemex in the morning.
