Positive Product Points

Price
Hot coffee
Brews fast (maybe too fast - weaker coffee)

Negative Product Points

Carafe form makes it somewhat difficult to poor coffee when it gets to the end
When tipping the carafe, the top (if you aren't holding it down) will open up and more coffee than expected ends up in your cup/countertop or table
Gold filter will not fit
Weaker coffee (still trying to find the right grind for this machine)

Detailed Commentary

REVISED: Caraffe kept leaking, Presto sent me another. It worked for about a month and leaked in the same spot. Poor caraffe design. Leaked coffee burns on heater element. Not happy with this coffee maker.

I would grade this a "ok/Good"

I wish I could agree w/ the rest of the reviewers on this pretty good coffee maker. I really wanted to write a review beaming about how great his coffee maker was... for only $40! But unfortunately, I was a bit let down. The coffee seems to be a bit "thin". I am using the same amount of beans as I did w/ my old machine, so perhaps I need to experiment w/ my grind and amount of beans. Of course, everyone has their own tastes, so for those who like a thin coffee, this may be exactly right for you.

It really is a nice looking design. It has a narrow footprint, and doesn't take up counter space. However, if you have low cupboards, like I do, it just fits underneath, due to it's height.

First, I wasn't happy about it not fitting a re-usable filter. The paper No. 4's just barely fit.

The carafe is a bit awkward to use. wide at the bottom and narrow at the top, it's a bit more difficult to clean w/ a cloth.

The red ball that notes where the water is, gets stuck often. Usually several hard taps or shakes will loosen it up.

Once it's finished brewing it bellows out steam from the top of the swing out basket. Water accumilates, and sometimes drips down. All coffee makers bellow out steam, but this is steam engine style and gets our cabinets kind of "wet" - much more so than the Krups. (Could be because it's hotter water)

I've never had a coffee maker w/ a swing out basket, but this one seems to drip when swinging out. This could just be something that goes w/ the territory.

For $40 (the cheapest coffee maker I've ever bought), it does the job. My old Krups just had it, but I didn't want to spend $100 on a new maker. The reviews here encouraged me to try it. It might be a nice alternative to a Mr. Coffee.

Buying Experience

Free shipping which shipped very fast. Recieved it before the noted delivery date. No problems.

Three Month Followup

I gave it away after a month and 1/2. The new Caraffe the company send leaked and dripped the same as the first (when brewing). Would not recommend this model.
