Positive Product Points
The Phililps HD7612 coffee maker brews at the right temperature (195-205F). The thermal carafe keeps coffee hot for at least two hours. There are two heating elements, one at 850watts and the other at 1400watts. The two elements allow you to brew at the correct brewing time for precise extraction. The unit aesthetics are nice. It brews a excellent cup of coffee and completely shuts off after the brew cycle.
Negative Product Points
The water fill is a little difficult due to the flip lid that hinges to the back. The shower head should have had multible holes instead of one. This would have wetted the grounds more evenly.
Detailed Commentary
I was looking for a automatic machine to replace the chemix unit. While at Target I stumbled upon the Philips HD7612. I liked the thermal carafe because we know what cooked coffee taste like! The unit is built in Holland and the quality seems to be very good. You can use the two heating elements to custom tailor the brewing time to taste. I have used the mocha setting (850watts) for two mugs, and this is about a 4.5 minute brew time. The gold setting (1400watts) works great for 3-5 mugs At brew times of 4 to 7.5 minutes. By experimenting with the amount of coffee and grind you can really make an excellent cup! Overall this brewer works very well and does not cost as mush as other thermal carafe brewers.
