Forty Nine dollars for coffee that tastes and smells like plastic for a week and starts leaking at three weeks. Two good weeks.
Positive Product Points
Once it's broke in makes fantastic coffee for a drip maker. Swing out removable basket. Water filter.
Negative Product Points
Takes at least 15 pots brewed to eliminate horrible plastic smell and taste. Reservoir started leaking after just three weeks. Buy some really cheap coffee, brew 20-25 pots to just pour out. Hope youhave better luck on the durability.
Detailed Commentary
I owned a FME4 before this one. I almost returned it after the 10th pot still stunk up the house like burning plastic and the coffee was horrible. Holiday weekend so I kept brewing and it started improving. By the 20th pot it made the best coffee I ever had from a drip pot. The reservoir started leaking at 1 year and one week. Bought a FMF5 from Bed Bath and Beyond. Same plastic stink and taste but memories of how good it gets kept me going. By the 20th pot I was getting good coffee again, but not as good as the old FME4. At three weeks old the reservoir started leaking. That will be my last Krups. Traded up for a Cuisinart DCC-1200. Appears to have been a wise move. I'm very impressed.
Buying Experience
I've owned two Krups. First one started leaking at one year of age and the new one after just three weeks. There will not be a third Krups.
