Detailed Commentary
I purchased this on sale at a department store for about $60. I was most attracted to it for its sturdy construction. I do not need very many special features, but I want this appliance to be useful everyday for MANY years. It turns out to be much easier to clean and keep clean than the 12 year old Black and Decker it is replacing.
Mine came with a gold cone style filter which I was planning to get anyway. The warmer under the caraffe turns off after two hours automatically. This warmer keeps the coffee hotter than other pots I have used -- I like the rich, strong, hot coffee it gives me.
While shopping I noticed that many drip coffee maker these days have a rotating fitting in their hot water line that lets the hot water line lift up with the lid when you add water or coffee grounds. That rotating fitting looks to me like a potential leak a few years down the road. This Kitchenaid does not have anything like that. It is very sturdy, even overbuilt. I expect it to work well for years.
Who should buy this? Anyone who wants a well made straight forward coffee maker that is easy to take care of and will last a long, long time.
