Absolutely the best consumer coffeemaker available. Nothing else comes close.
Positive Product Points
Brews fast, at the right temperature, tastes better than any consumer coffeemaker out there.
Negative Product Points
Some models do not release the water properly after the lid is closed. Brewing pots in excess of 8 cups can cause the filter to overflow if the grind is not course enough.
Detailed Commentary
First, I'd like to just respond to all the negative boohooing going on about the recent recall. I was in the same boat and was offered a new Bunn at half price. To those who can't do without their coffemaker for a week because they are addicted: have you heard of a French Press? Anyone who loves great coffee knows that a French Press often beats any drip coffemaker. They are extremely cheap and if you are springing for a Bunn, certainly you can afford to have one on the side. I had had my Bunn for almost 3 years so I was glad to turn it in for a new one at half price. Anyone who has had a Bunn for 4+ years, knows that after that amount of time the heating element often dies in the water tank if you have hard water. I'm sure mine was approaching that point so I was glad to trade it in. When the second recall came around (apparently they didn't fix the problem the first time), Bunn did the right thing and cross-shipped me a BRAND NEW machine for free paying shipping both ways. This is definitely how a company should act and they came through for me. The Bunn itself is a solid winner. There is no contest. Ever since I bought my first Bunn Home Brewer in 1996, I have recommended them to everyone I know. My sister has one, my parents have one, my brother has one, my workplace got one....and then just got a second one. They make the best consistent cup of coffee out of any consumer brewer out there.
Strangely, coffeegeek does not have a place to rate brew quality - probably the most important aspect of a coffeemaker - and aesthetics are given the same weight in the ratings as other more important things. Obviously taste is the most important thing - other stuff not so much. No wonder when you search coffeegeeks review scores they seem to be completely random....basically useless unless you read each single review. Anyway, this is the reason I rated each category so high. Because if I give a 3 to aesthetics, the whole score gets dragged down. Quite stupid.
Buying Experience
My first Bunn I bought at Service Merchandise for 99.99. It was the very first 8 cup model with the oval carafe. I bought it in 1996 and have not looked back.
