Bottom Line: Overall in its price range, the SL-90 is hard to beat.
Positive Product Points

Produces good repeatable shots, great steam, well controlled temperatures, heavy-duty internal construction.

Negative Product Points

Smallish portafiller, no 3-way solenoid valve results in "puff" when removing portafiller, long cool down or need to bleed pressure after steaming to produce another shot.

Detailed Commentary

I bought the SL-90 to replace my leaking Krups Semi Commercial Maximo and in almost all aspects has been a great improvement.  It heats up quickly and the cup warmer does a much better job than the Krups.  Programmed shot sizes is nice.  I used the pressurized filters for a while and finally ordered the non-pressured filters from Baratza.  I now get adequate creme, but need a better grinder.  I am currently using a Saeco MC2002 Burr grinder and I need to upgrade it.

The steaming power of the SL-90 is excellent.  After a short warm-up it produces unlimited steam and perfect microfoam.  There is a good wait for it to cool down before you can make another shot of espresso unless you bleed the pressure after you steam your milk.

Buying Experience

Excellent service from 1st-line and they included espresso pods, thermometer for frothing, steaming pitcher, and a brush to clean the machine.
