Detailed Commentary
Hard to mention any negative points on Silvia but there sure is one. If coffee is not really your hobby it can be quite a strain to work this machine properly. Besides, it took me about 6 months before I could brew really nice espresso. Therefore I would say that if you're looking for just a machine that makes nice cappuccino, don't buy the Silvia. On the other hand. If you want make almost professional coffee and are willing to spend time learning how to do so. Silvia is the best choice.
About 18 months ago we bought the Rancilio and it is the most used machine in our kitchen now. Not once has it failed its duty. Espresso is always beautiful provided that you use real fresh coffee. If the coffee you use is more then a couple of days old the water just runs through at a very fast pace. I found it hard to brew an espresso in 25 seconds. Usually it goes a lot faster. With buying the Rancilio you really have to spend the extra money on a good grinder as well. Something to keep in mind when spending the money.
