Detailed Commentary

Fantastic machine! I was really surprised to see any negative reviews - i've had no problems at all, although i will say you MUST grind your own espresso, and you MUST get yourself a burr grinder. it doesn't have to be expensive - i found a cuisinart for under $40 that works like a charm! the only issue i had with the espresso machine was right after i bought it; i didn't have the grinder yet and i was stupid enough to use pre-ground espresso, which clogged the filter. this is not a cheap machine - you need properly ground espresso! since then, it has workded like a dream. this is my 5th machine, including a starbucks barista that crapped out for no reason, a nespresso that was inconsistent, and a couple of cheaper machines that were gifts. i chose this breville because i didn't want to spend thousands when i'm the only coffee lover in my household, and i wanted a good, solid, pump-driven machine that wouldn't take up all of my counter space! there is a hidden drawer under the water tank for storing the tamper and cleaning tool, which is a nice design filter. i researched reviews and comparisons and picked this one, and i've never been sorry. it heats in less than 2 minutes, and produces incredible crema and consistently delicious espresso every time. i've found the frother to be among the easiest to use, and i love the hot water feature for making cocoa for my husband. with a proper metal pitcher, i have no problem generating tons of froth for a cappucino or just enough for a latte, and it thickens and froths cocoa into a fabulous treat. if you are looking for a mid-priced machine that is reliable, easy to use, attractive, and solidly built, this is IT. it comes with the tools you need to clean the filters, although if you use properly ground espresso you should have no problems with clogging. i've used this daily for 3+ years with no issues.

Buying Experience

i found this at bed bath and beyond, where i could use a coupon (price paid is after coupon) and was able to exchange a previously gifted machine that was unsatisfactory with no problems. mine came with cleaning tools, a single and double filter as well as a filter for use with pods, a cleaning tool, coffee scoop and tamper, and a metal milk frothing pitcher.
