The high quality hot water and steam valves in the Andreja I purchased last year had been replaced by lower quality valves in the new Andreja.
Detailed Commentary
Last year I purchased an Andreja Premium from Sweet Marias for home use. I was so pleased with the machine I decided to splurge and buy one for my office. After reading 33 glowing reports of customer service from Chris', I decided to buy the new machine from them even though the buying experience of my first machine from Sweet Marias had been good. The machine comes covered with plastic. The inside of the plastic and the machine itself were covered with moisture. I removed the plastic and wiped-down the machine. I noticed the different look of the steam and hot water valves immediately. I turned them on and off and then compared that action with the valve action of my 2005 machine. The valves were much smoother on the old machine. I removed the top cover of the machine. The inside was also covered with moisture, so I unscrewed the two top screws to inspect the HX. One of the screws was already loose. The HX, its insulation and all of the electrical parts were covered with moisture. I called Chris' and reported the problem. Mary told me it probably had something to do with an oversite during bench testing and put me in touch with Roger in the service department. I explained the problem to Roger and we also discussed Quick Mills' changing the hot water and steam valves. Roger assured me the valve change was the only difference between and 2005 and 2006 machines. He would not acknowledge that the newer valves were of lesser quality, but did say that Quick Mill had made the change without notifying Chirs' Coffee. My concern about having future problems with the machine due to moisture in the electrical parts was the deciding factor in returning the machine to Chris'. I was given an "RA" number and told I would be reimbursed for the $55.99 in shipping costs.
Buying Experience
It was disappointing to have such an expensive machine arrive in that condition. Mary and Roger were both very business like, but not really sympathetic.
Three Month Followup
This was my first serious espresso machine. I no longer have my first Andreja either, but looking back, it was one of my favorites, warts and all. After going through several other machines and vendors, I've come to appreciate the Andreja a lot more and also the great people from Chris' Coffee.
