The Duetto II continues to exceed my expectations, no buyers remorse, no upgrade-itis!
Positive Product Points
I purchased the Duetto II because I wanted a dual boiler PID machine that had stable temperature control and could be plumbed. The Duetto II delivers on all of these. Once I had the machine set up, and get the grind dialed in for the coffee I am using, the Duetto II produces highly predictable and repeatable results. Great coffee every time.
Negative Product Points
It is big. I knew this when I bought it, but if you are looking for something to be out of the way on the counter, this is not the one.
Detailed Commentary
This machine has made brewing espresso almost too easy. Once it is set up and the grind is right, the results are near perfect every time. I drink mostly cappucinos, with the occasional espressos when I am trying new coffees or getting the PID dialed for a new coffee.
The PID controler keeps the temperature very stable. The PID was set by Chris Coffee to show the temp at the grouphead, and I think it is pretty much right on. The temp recommendations from Blue Bottle or Counter Culture for their coffees have been right on. Temperature stablizes about 1 min post any flush or brewing, so recovery time is fast.
The machine came with two steam tips, a smaller two-hole, and a larger four-hole. I have only used the two-hole, since I am usualy only making 1-2 milk drinks. This has produced plenty of steam for my needs. if I was making milk drinks for crowds I might use the larger one.
I plumbed the machine in and will never go back to a pourover machine. The kit from Chris Coffee makes plumbing easy if you have any technical skill.
Over all I am very happy with this purchase. My only complaint is that it is too easy! I sometimes miss agonizing with my Silvia to produce a decent shot. The Duetto II is very prediactable and stable. I consistently make better espreso than 95% of the stuff you get at a cafe. So far Blue Bottle in SF is the only coffee my wife will say is better than mine.
Buying Experience
I bough the Duetto II from Chris Coffee, and would highly recommend them to anyone. I spoke with Chris on the phone, and expected a quick 5 min hard sell. Chris talked to me for about 20 min, and I am sure would have spent all the time I needed, walking me through the decision between the Duetto II and the Vivaldi II. I also ordered the plumb kit from Chris Coffee, and called them back with a question on that installation, and again got great support and service. Shipment was prompt and packaging on the large machine was outstanding.
Chris is very knowledgable and passionate about his product line, and takes the time to make sure you know what you are buying.
