Get this beautiful Elektra commercial machine and forget about upgrading!
Positive Product Points
Although I have not tried other one group professional machines with a rotary pump, I can safely say that this type of machine, delivers ample crema and steam. It really seems to amplify the taste of coffee much better than machines that are not similarly made. The machine is visually quite stunning as all the Elektra line.
Negative Product Points
Almost as nice to look at as the new stunning model.
Detailed Commentary
This is a second hand machine I bought in Montreal at about half the price of a new machine by Elektra. It’s a one group Elektra with a rotary pump and direct water connection and connection for the waste water. This model just precedes the one now sold. You can see the new model at http://www.lurisia.com/sixties_1_group.htm. The new model is quite stunning and has the famous e61 group. This model, I am told, is one of the best sellers for the store (Café Creme on Jean Talon Street in Montreal tel: (514) 277-4554). The first noticeable thing about producing an espresso with this machine is the ample crema that is medium to dark brown and quite thick. This color will obviously vary with each blend used. The coffee produced (with this type of machine) appears quite clearly to have more flavor and undertones with its large boiler and rotary pump. Mind you, you still need fresh coffee and a quality grinder! At first, I could not control the ample steam; after a while, frothing milk is quite easy. You still need cold, fresh milk poured into a metal container to steam for best results. The top of the Elektra is used as a cup warmer that really works since a lot of heat is produced by this machine. Now my next quest is to try different blends all over again
Buying Experience
The buying experience was very good. Nicola, the owner of the place, was quite pleasant and did not try to push me into a decision. The machine was delivered to me, installed and they made sure afterwards that it worked properly. They sell other kinds of machines but the Elektra machines are true quality works of art.
Three Month Followup
Just today, I saw Nicola, the owner at Café Creme (514-277-4554) who sells the Electra line. I am still very much in love with the machine and may upgrade to the new stunning model. The machine is very reliable. Regular cleaning with special soap and using the blind filter keeps the machine in top running condition. This type of machine, with a commercial group, large boiler and volumetric pump, delivers a fantasticly flavourfull cup of coffee. Having started with a cheap steam espresso machine and having moved up to six (yes 6) other machines along the way, I can safely affirm that a commercial machine like the Elektra will bring you over the top...It is also a very beautifull addition to the home or office. The only problem with such great coffee making, is not to forget to savour the coffee. Yes I would and most likely will buy this machine again.
