Seattle, WA—Coffee Fest has announced that it will donate 10 percent of all on-site registration proceeds from its Seattle 2005 show to the American Red Cross to assist in the relief and recovery effort for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Coffee Fest Seattle 2005 will be held at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center October 28 through 30.
“I am certainly concerned for all of the people who are suffering in the wake of Katrina and those who have experienced tremendous loss,” said David Heilbrunn, Coffee Fest show manager. “At the same time, we have an eye on the effect of Katrina on our industry. The Port of New Orleans has been importing coffee for more than 150 years, creating a robust industry that employs about 1,200 people at 22 coffee roasting, processing and warehousing companies. New Orleans is the second leading import point of coffee in the United States, bringing in more than 500 million pounds per year.” Heilbrunn notes: “My guess is that millions of pounds of green coffee has been or probably will be destroyed.”
In addition to donating 10 percent of on-site revenue, Coffee Fest will invite attendees and exhibitors at the show to make additional contributions to the relief effort. A receipt for these additional donations will be provided at the registration desk, with all donations being tax-deductible.
Coffee Fest is dedicated to the growth and proliferation of the specialty coffee, gourmet tea and alternative beverage industries. More information can be obtained at www.coffeefest.com or by calling 425.283.5058. |
