Subject: Hidden House Coffee in San Juan Capistrano

I was looking for someplace in Orange County to take my dad for coffee on New Years Eve Day, but Portola Coffee wasn't answering their phone so I assumed that they were closed for the day, so I did a bit of poking around and found Hidden House Coffee in San Juan Capistrano would be open.

It's a small shop in a historic building across from the train station in the historic Los Rios district.  They roast their own coffee in the shop, and were roasting a nice Mexico while where there their, and dumped it at first crack.  I had their espresso blend, which was fruity with good body, even though the roaster said that they were having pressure problems with their espresso machine (a new Victoria Arduino) and were going to be replacing it soon.  I also had a pour over of the Mexico Oaxaca which was subtly sweet with chocolate notes and a nice lemon peal acidity that showed up in the finish but did not come off as sour in the cup.

I'd recommend giving this place a try if your in the area, I really enjoyed my visit.  There's also a petting zoo (Zoomars) nearby and several other places to see and nice restaurants and cafes.  The mission and trading post are also nice places to visit.
