Hi I am spending a couple of weeks in San Fransisco soon and would love any advice on where to go to indulge in my favourite beverage.....a flat white! I will be staying in the financial / Chinatown district....but I love to wander around searching out for great coffee and cafes. any advice or suggestions of cafes etc would be great Cheers

That map is quite impressive collection. I visited recently and would recommend: #1 four barrel was pretty neat with side SO espresso on versalab and SO pourover #2 sightglass really cool vibe that looks like they copied a bit of the four barrell feel. Nice/knowledgale baristas. #3 blue bottle. Was at the one on mint, and other location too....but preferred the one at the market. SO lever at the side window. The market is worth a trip anyway, b/c there are lots of other great shops including great food and artisan cheese that was worth a few stops. #4 Ritual wasn't up to my expectations....a little dirty. Had some cool gear but seemed more like an assembly line. I was on shot #7 or 8 by then on my cafe crawl, so had some bad gut rot when I got there. Maybe that made the experience less enjoyable. There was a cool looking place on market street near the outdoor market that looked interesting. Had cold brew going and some cool looking menu items. One was same coffee 3 different ways: ie pourover, espresso, french press. I found it hard to pass up but was really dizzy and feeling ill by this point in the crawl. Hope that helps narrow down a bit.

If I may offer two tips.. My last trip into "The City".. 1) Ritual Coffee on Valencia was superb.. great machs, capps and pour over, all done with care 2) Never refer to San Francisco as San Fran, the locals would be aghast.. It is either San Francisco or "The City" ;-) I love San Francisco to visit for its' food, music, Golden Gate Park, just the great walking and oh my the people, diversity at it's zenith. Enjoy.. ps.. one great place for food is http://www.limonsf.com/ their ceviche is brilliant as is the rotisserie chicken. Great meal at a reasonable price. Booze is another story although my wife, daughter and future son in law say the Sangria ain't half bad.. I don't drink so I couldn't say-- I just get the bill

Barefoot Coffee Roasters announced: "As of Oct 13 Barefoot Santa Clara won't be a Barefoot cafe" on their twitter feed. The new name for the Santa Clara location will be Chromatic Coffee, from what I've been able to figure out, and I think they'll be offering coffees from other roasters as well as their own roasted coffee. We'll see. I, for one, welcome our new coffee roaster overlords. Update: Chromatic Coffee has announced their soft opening this weekend on their Instagram feed (chromaticcoffee). I'll have to miss it, but I will check them out soon.

Posted October 9, 2012 link That sounds like it was probably Ma'Velous, a multi-roaster shop at 1408 Market Street. Very close to the Civic Center BART Station.
