Many very good coffee houses opened in Oakland in the past six months. Eddie from Broken Door espresso in San Jose told me that last October Blue Bottle moved to a new wholesale roaster location and they actually have an attached coffee house which is open to the public. That black ball hanging from the ceiling is a speaker.

Bali S.O espresso at the Blue Bottle roastery location in Oakland. Absolutely stunning shot!

By chance I met James Freeman who showed me the roasting operation and the training lab. James told me that at this location they are able to experiment more with different coffee beans and roasts and that is why they have this Bali S.O. espresso only at this location. James treated me to a second double Bali S.O. ristretto which tasted fantastic! Just unbelievable!

Got to meet the owners of Modern Coffee. Very friendly people. Of the three different espressos available at Modern coffee, they were pulling Sara Petersonís Ethiopia Yirgacheffe competition espresso from the 2010 WRBC finals. Nice shot! To me tasted very similar to Blue Bottle Sidamo espresso.

Continued the Oakland Driving Espresso Tour and visited Remedy coffee house in Oakland. Unfortunately the cart was inside and not on the sidewalk.

Ritual Evil Twin espresso at Remedy, which is a blend of two beans, both the same S.O but roasted differently. Very sweet tasting espresso with nice chocolate. Good shot! Looks like they need help to finish building Remedy coffee house. For a $1000 investment you receive $1250 in value, or the equivalent of 625 double espressos.

Hole in the wall coffee house Subrosa pulling shots with beans from Four Barrel coffee in San Francisco. This coffee house reminds me of coffee houses in Portland, some of which are located in residential neighborhoods.
