Subject: Tony's 1st Annual In-House Barista Competition!

Yesterday I attended Tony's 1st annual in-house barista competion. About seven baristas from all over the bay area competed using coffees from Tony's. This event, which was held at the Tony's Coffees & Teas wholesale location in San Jose, gives each barista a very nice opportunity to compete, using a Synesso, and work with coffees from Tony's. The winner of this event is sponsored by Tony's to attend the upcoming Western Regional Barista Competition.

Each barista had to prepare four espressos, four cappuccinos, and four signature coffee drinks, and try to do it all under 15 minutes. Each barista used a different single origin coffee or blend from Tony's. I can't remember what coffee each barista decided to use.

First competitor was Brendan who is a barista at Red Rock in Mountain View.

After each barista completed their performance they prepared espresso drinks for interested spectators. I had this absolutely awesome tasting ristretto pulled by Brendan.

After he finished making the 12 espresso drinks, he prepared his signature drink for some of the attendees. I already had quite a bit of coffee by this time so I decided to let this one pass.

After each barista completed the 15 minute competition, the judges gathered by the forklift to compare notes.

I want to thank Joshua Kaplan from Tony's for having this wonderful event. I got to meet a lot of other coffee lovers, baristas, and coffee importers, and I also got to taste a lot of really nice espressos and signature drinks.
