Two weeks ago at Ritual they introduced several new 2008 crops from Panama. To celebrate, Ritual had a Panama week. In 2007 there was more hoopla about the Esmeralda, but I did want to try the 2008 auction lot ES 9-22 Esmeralda coffee from Ritual which was made on the Clover.

The Esmeralda made on the Clover had very nice complexity. Good coffee. I'm glad I had it but at $9.50 per cup, the less expensive Panama coffees are almost just as good. I'll stick with those.

I also had a double ristretto pulled with Panama Duncan Estate Kotawa. That was a very nice sweet and complex fruity shot.

This week I visited Ritual at Flora Grubb Gardens, and this time I had the Panama Duncan Estate Kotawa made on the Clover. Loved the aroma. Not as good as the Esmeralda but still nice coffee for less than half the price.

This is a shot pulled with the new Life Saver espresso beans. Real nice! I like it better than the Sweet Tooth espresso because it has more complexity. The barista told me it has Misty Valley in it.

When at Ritual might just as well visit their next-door neighbor too. I visited both Ritual and Four Barrel twice in September and both times the customer line at Four Barrel was shorter than at Ritual. Ritual still seems more crowded. At Four Barrel I love the fact that I can walk around the counter and have a good look at both espresso machines and all the action going on.

I never noticed the four-barrel roaster before because it is quite small. I saw this Clover at Four Barrel. Hope they will start using it soon. Currently when I visit Four Barrel, they have only one brewed coffee ready to go. The Clover solves that issue.

I read on yelp how good the pastries at Four Barrel are. I had a plain croissant, which was really good. Possibly the best tasting croissant I've ever had. Very nice latte and nice Hairbender espresso at Four Barrel.

Customer line at Ritual on Valencia is longer than at Four Barrel (when I visited). At Ritual at Flora Grubb Gardens they didn't have any Misty Valley, so I drove over to the Ritual on Valencia to get some.

Had this very nice Life Saver espresso. I like it better than the Sweet Tooth espresso.
