Ciao,
The BB lever kiosk usually pulls the Roman Espresso blend, the same as I use at home. It's pretty good when done right, but it's the least user-friendly blend, as they admit on their website. BTW, I also got hooked on the Yemen -- a little too intense for me as straight shots, but in cappuccini -- oh man!!! And it's relatively easy to pull good shots with. I'll check out the Sidamo one of these days, too. Grazie, Gary.
Re 4 Barrel, I'll have to make a pilgrimage, it could be the closest place outside of Portland to get Stumptown Hairbender. (I hope they sell the beans, too!) While I'm in the neighborhood, I suppose I'll have to stop by Ritual as well!

The Blue Bottle Yemen is now five days after roast. Pulled some shots and taste has developed a lot of complexity. Lots of different flavors. Very nice shots. Nice body. I'm hooked on the Yemen now. I like it better than the Blue Bottle Sidamo.

GaryH,
Glad you are enjoying Blue Bottle Yemen. It's always been my favorite. Thanks for posting those pics. I have seen your montages in lots of different threads and always find them enjoyable. Captures the brew and the atmosphere around it.
jonbauer,
Also, very cool pics. Jeremy the owner (the guy in the pic from your first link) is such a nice guy. I have really enjoyed chatting with him the couple times I've been there. I like how you label the ginormous Mazzer Robur, "Mazzer mini". =-)
So, last time I went, Jeremy told me they will be concentrating on single origins....not necessarily for pulling shots, but for roasting. Sounds perfect to me. He got very excited about the Yemen they will be roasting. He told me it tastes like root beer. I've never liked root beer that much. But, now is probably the time to start. Espresso floats anyone?

TagTeamJesus - thanks for the note. I honestly didn't know much about the Mazzer line up. Whenever I saw the 4 M logo, I always thought Mazzer Mini. I went to their website and got an education. I changed the note on the picture. Thanks.
I wasn't saying to change it. It could just be re-framed as being sarcastic. =-) As much as the Robur is considered the best of the best, I don't think I'd really want one in my house. Might be a tad too big for my counter space. But, maybe I'll feel differently someday if I ever get the urge for a conical grinder. For now, my Macap MC4 has a feeling of permanence.

"24th Street is shaping up to become the new gourmet ghetto. This weekend I got word that handmade donuts and coffee from baker Sara Spearin and her husband Jonny Raglin of Absinthe are coming to the neighborhood. The 7x7 Bits + Bites blog broke the story yesterday about ~DYNAMO DONUT AND COFFEE~: the donuts are the creation of Sara, a pastry chef and avid baker for the past 20 years. Look for flavors like banana dulce de leche, and bacon-apple with maple glaze and caramel fleur de sel. Mmmm, bacon donuts. There will be five to six donuts available, and to go with them, it will not just be any coffee, but Four Barrel Coffee, yo. There will be a killer La Marzocco machine for espresso, a few single origin varietals available on drip, and French press for to-go. Look for this small walk-up kiosk to hopefully open in mid-July (permits and construction pending), and then as things roll out, the shop will be bigger, with additional American-style bakery items added to the line-up, like some breads, plus lunch items. There will also be a back patio! The space is the former home of La Torta Gorda, which has already moved one block down—Dynamo will be just next door to Casa Sanchez. Hours are tentatively 7am–5pm Mon–Sat, and opening possibly earlier (like 6am, depending on how things go). 2760 24th St. at Hampshire."
Or it' just like I explained to my wife. It's all about priorities. Which is more important, having clean laundry, or having a 3-group La Marzocco in the laundry room? I know the answer is obvious, but....
