Tom posted this to the homeroast list today.

A little surprise for you Bay Area people, but we are indeed moving back. Sweet Maria's will be on 64th St near Hollis in Emeryville starting sometime in Sept. The timing is a little unclear since moving a home and a business is a heck of a lot of work. I imagine we'll be down for about 2 weeks in late August.

This is good for everyone in the western part of the U.S.  I know it's silly, but the downer about ordering from SM for me has been that UPS generally takes 4 business days to deliver from Ohio to AZ and I'm too cheap to pay for 2nd day air.  Bay Area is generally 2-3 days??  Plus, shipping costs will go down.  I know this will be a drag for the people on the east coast but I say.... YAY!!!

So Tom's moving west coast finally, huh? He mentioned to me at the SCAA show he was actively looking to move. It will be great, but I also hope Tom's ready... it's a lot easier for us west coast home roasters to get down to SF than it is for Ohio :)

Ok, this could be the best news I've heard all month.  I have to agree that the shipping time used to be (and likely still is, until the move anyway) impatiently long.

The pessimistic part of my brain keeps telling me that we'll have to pay sales tax on our purchases though, so I wouldn't expect any real savings on the shipping cost (which was always pretty reasonable, IMO).

FANTASTIC!!!  I'm so excited--Tom & Maria and all that lovely coffee will practically be in my backyard.  The only problem is, what will this do to my bank account?

Tom also posted that he's working on getting discounted UPS 2nd Day shipping, so the East Coast people may not suffer that much. :) I'm looking forward to having SM in my "backyard", sales tax or no sales tax.

Josh - check your grocery store receipts.  If you don't pay tax on food items (many states, don't), you won't have to pay tax.

Darn, I completely forgot about coffee beans being a "food product".  I always tend to lump them in with beer, wine and the other liquid must-haves.

Thanks again Roxie, that definetly makes this the best news all month.  Almost the best news all year. :)

Unfortunately, for those in CA, I guess you'll have to pay tax on all the other nifty non-coffee-bean stuff Sweet Maria's sells.
