Subject: Kaffa! Review - in the city of Orange (Orange County): update....

I had my 3rd visit to Kaffa! today- on each visit, I ordered the same thing: a doppio followed by a (small) latte.  Each time, the double shots were (in order of visit):

1) C. A little sour but "fixed" by me with a spoonful of sugar.   Perhaps I was near the end of the bean supply in the hopper....
2) B.  Not the best I've had, mind you, but very good with slight acidity and citrus notes.
3) B+/A-.  Maybe equal to some shots I've pulled at home.  Crema was like a mini glass of guiness!  Aftertaste seemed to have a little more staying power- which was good, because this doppio seemed to have a bit more body to it than my previous samplings.

All 3 lattes I had were very good, B+ (with bonus points for the latte art).  the shots were able to cut through the milk just fine without having that "Peet's charcoal, wow this milk is freakin' hot!" feeling.

The atmosphere is nice- kind of "SBUX art-deco with a lighter color pallette".  As an added bonus, you get free wireless internet access.  The baristas are friendly, as are the regulars.  They get an "A" for atmosphere, customer service and cleanliness.

My one gripe is that none of my drinks were served in a real mug- even though I specifically stated "for here" with each order.  I'll be sure to be uber-specific on my next visit, because this is definitely a place worth checking out.

Regards,
-Chuck

I have been buying their espresso blend for my Silvia, and it is great.  They share an offsite roaster and the coffee is always fresh (especially Wed. and Fri. afternoons.)  I may buy from a few online retailers from time to time just to switch things up, but on a regular basis, I will continue to buy beans from Kaffa!

When I have enough time, I get either a macchiato or a cappuccino.  If Justin is pouring, I know it will be great.

This is the only place to go in Orange County.  (Coffee Klatch is in San Dimas, which is in L.A. County.)

It's not in Orange County, but if you ever find yourself in Long Beach, Aroma di Roma on 2nd Street- in Belmont Shore is very good.  The staff is has always been friendly and knowledgable when I've been there.

Went there this weekend. Beautiful red LM FB70, Mazzer grinders. They use a couple of different blends, including Lavazza's Top Class blend for espresso and Supreme Bean's Black and Tan.

Had a capp. Not bad, although not as good as those I've had at Barefoot or Organica in the Bay Area. I would assume much of it would be due to the beans (Lavazzas are always at least a few months old by the time they reach these shores).  Barista attempted a rosetta at my request and was halfway successful. He offered to let me pour the next one. Nice staff.

Also serve paninis and wide assortment of gelatos.

Overall, I would rate them among the tops in the South Bay/L.B. area (admittedly, that's not saying much).

Kaffa! in Orange is awesome....the only really great shot or cappa you can get in OC, AFAIK. Microfoam is excellent and latte art included...even when Justin's not pulling. If you go in and ask for a double ristretto, though, Justin will do the pull. Panini are good there as well.

It's at La Veta and Main, across Main from CHOC/St. Joseph's Hospital, at the back of a strip mall. Wish I lived a tad closer.

I drop in from time to time when im not working or going to school (which is VERY often now *sigh*), and each time I do I consistantly get a good Capp.  The beans are very fresh and it shows in the taste.  The staff is very friendly and I would recomend it to anyone in the area.

I visited Kaffa! on 11/25/05 and had two very good 1oz double ristrettos (don't know what beans they used). The milk for the latte was steamed a bit too hot so it didn't have sweetness to it. In the LA area I've been to Clatch, Conservatory, Kaffa!, Redcat and Urth, and I had the best tasting ristretto at Kaffa! Beautiful coffee house. Very glad I got to visit.

I just went to Kaffa! for the first time yesterday.  My office building is maybe half a mile away.  I'm not at all familiar with Orange, my office just moved down there from Long Beach three or four months ago and I'm still exploring the area.  I'm not sure why I'm just hearing about this place for the first time but I'm sure glad I did.  I had the best espresso I've ever had in Orange County.  This was a truly great espresso.  Huge blueberry and fruit flavors, just a hint of bitterness.  I've had some better espressos, Intelligentsia in Silverlake occasionally, Gimme Coffee! out in Brooklyn too, but this is on the short list of truly quality places to get an espresso.  Color me impressed.

I just stopped by there last week -- thought I should let y'all know that Kaffa! now uses Intelligentsia coffee exclusively.

I never realized that Kaffa used Intelligentsia coffee!  I moved to Orange a few months ago and passed by the place, but didn't think much of it.  There's a store in old towne Orange near my place called The Bruery, that sells Intelligentsia coffee beans and coffee beans from Portola Coffee Lab in Costa Mesa.
