Subject: Good & Bad Espresso Found in Fredericksburg, VA

Passed through the city yesterday and did a google search for coffee shops there. Went to 25 30 Espresso on Princess Anne St and to Hyperion Espresso on Williams St.  I got single shots of straight espresso at both places.

At 25 30 just two customers there as the location is on the outside of the main historic shopping district and it was the middle of the afternoon..  Theirs had a rich crema and was pleasingly sweet. More so than expected. They use and sell Counter Culture beans there. I picked up two bags of beans that were roasted a week ago to take home.

Next stop was Hyperion where they roast their own. Being near the University, Hyperion had a fair crowd of young people half my age lined up ordering their lattes. The lady said I could come back for some hot water if it was too strong. Unfortunately it was very bitter with a poor crema. Had it not been a line 6 deep behind me, I would have queried her on why it was the worst espresso I've had in quite awhile.
