Hi. I just picked up a Le'Lit PL041 and need to make a bottomless PF for it. I don't have the tools at home, and am wondering if anyone knows of a good machine shop in Boston that you have perhaps used for something like this.

Thanks!

I assume you want to modify your PF.  Any shop with a lathe should be able to do this easily.  Or, get a hole-saw for your drill and do it yourself.

For what a machine shop would probably charge you to do this, you could buy a 3/8" drill and a hole saw and do it yourself.  Brass is soft and cuts very easily.

Here are some instructions.

You ever modify your portafilter?  I did one yesterday and it took all of 20 minutes, start-to-finish, and that included the time to sand the sharp edges off.  One thing that tutorial didn't mention was using some type of cutting oil.  I used WD-40 and it worked like a champ.

Don't pay a machine shop.  Get your hands dirty and make something you're proud of!

drdreydel,
If you're still looking, I know someone in the area who might be able to do it for you.  Send an e-mail to my profile address for more information.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I know that it's pretty easy to do, I just don't have the tools. I've been meaning to get a drill anyhow, so this would probably be a good time to do so.

Thanks!

I also just picked up a Le'lit, and would be super interested in getting myself a bottomless portafilter. The whole 57mm thing is kind of a pain...
