i'm a proud supporter (and supportee!) of local good coffee...and when we started out here, it was pretty much all augusta had for coffee...outside of the bookstore chain shops.
now i'm starting to become frightened by the upsurgence of *$ shops around here. Augusta is not very large...we call it a big town or a small city...yet we have now in our midst (and all within the last two years) 6 starbucks....and frankly, i just dont think we have enough discriminitory coffee drinkers in the area who will seek out the good stuff if there are three starbucks on the way to their destination.
we need to band together to inform this area about the importance of supporting local GOOD coffee. who's with me?
yes...i have a college degree. yes...i'm not working in my "field" yes...i love my job.

Yeah, I'm close to Augsta, across the river in a small town with no *$ or coffee in general! :) Of course, you knew that already since you are my sister.

I used to live outside of Augusta and spent a lot of time at the 2 coffee shops that existed then (PJ's and, later, the Metro). I now live in Athens, but am in Augusta every now and then to visit friends and family.
What coffee shops are there besides the 2 aforementioned ones and Starbucks? Last time I went into town there was a little cafe/shop called (IIRC) Serendipity and another one whose name had something to do with Gabriel (again, IIRC). Haven't been to either one, though.

Gabriels. We both work for them. Becca got in on the ground floor and I was a few months later. We now both work at the kiosk that opened in one of the VA hospitals downtown this past fall.
There is some new shop out in Evans, and is Abby's still open? They moved from their location. And apparently there is a new shop on Davis rd. near the original R. Gabriels location but I haven't been by to try it out. R. Gabriels and (if they are still around) Abby's both roast coffee.
Downtown used to have two other shops but they both closed, there is a small gellato shop on Green St. called The Jury Room that also serves espresso, coffee, and sandwiches that opened last year.
Over in North Augusta there is a little place that serves drip coffee run by a couple of ladies, haven't been in to try it, and a new shop that opened up in the Valley.
In Aiken there is Moon Beans, a roastery and coffeeshop. Also haven't been to that one.
Is Mocha Mark's still open? They are near the old Target shopping center if so.
Other than the buck that is all i know of.
IIRC is "if I recall".
And yes, it is Serendipity. Are they still open, Becca?
Good to know that someone is doing coffee right in Augusta. Where are the R.Gabriels locations? VA Hospital and where else? I might have to swing by next time I am in town.
Was Abby's the place near West Lake? If so, I had some awful coffee there when I lived in Augusta.
