I am going there toward the end of April for a meeting. Lots of hotel choices, so wondering about coffee. I know Johnson Bros is there, but they roast but do have a shop.

Johnson Bros has their coffee in a bunch of restaurants and a few specialty coffee shops. The only one I know about is Fair Trade on State St.
I usually go to Espresso Royale (on State) because it's close to where I work. If you like lattes, Ancora on King St has always had really good baristas and they also roast. Ground Zero on Williamson is pretty good. I can also recommend EVP, another roaster. They are on East Washington.

Only made it to two places. Between the sequestration delayed connecting flights, time change and short stay (that and total wandering around fascination with the EPIC training center) I just plain ran out of time.
Thursday on the way to Verona, I stopped by one of the EVP sites. It was the closest thing I found on the way that morning. Coffee was .. okay. Nothing superb. I was impressed that they still sold by the pound and not 12 ounces, but not that they kept it in plastic bags in the well lit refrigerator. Also, the person who was working the counter there, I draw the line at calling him a Barista, mentioned that his coffee at home never came out very good, that his water was too hard. I commented that he hadn't learned working there not to make coffee with very hard tap water?????
On the way to the airport, I stopped in at Johnson Public House. Okay, now they were impressive, even though they didn't roast. They had coffee that day from Intelligentsia (only thing they had on sale and since that's close, didn't buy), Madcap and Kickapoo. I prefer African to South American so had the one from Madcap (My apologies for not taking a picture so that I remembered what I had, I was tired and so ready to go home.) Anywho, they knew what they sold and how to make it and if I had had time, I would have tried more.
