I have been going to a little Italian cafe in Swiss Cottage recently which is newly opened. It's called Gastronomia la Delizia.  The coffee there is very delicious, the best I've had in North London - and it's so hard to find a good coffee in North London!!! This is a great place with friendly staff who are passionate about Italian food and coffee. It should be tried by many!! It's on Fairfax road in Swiss Cottage if you fancy trying it out!

Virtually any coffee shop in central london is great, in Hammersmith you can find some good ones there too!

Agree with Taylor St. Baristas. They have a large shop over in the city but a really nice more relaxed shop in the west just behind Claridges. Flat White and Picolo are both really good.

Of late have been really impressed with Tindersticks over at Westfield in Stratford specifically the the guy who does the demonstrating. Really good coffee and always asks whether we enjoyed our coffee too.

Anyone else have any good tips?

Just sharing some experiences from a recent trip to London: Monmouth on Monmouth Street near Covent Garden is very good, although very small - not much space to sit and linger. Another great shop with fantastic food is Kaffeine on Great Titchfield Street near Oxford Circus. Always have two roasts to choose from. I have also heard good things about Nude Espresso with two locations - one in the Brick Lane area, the other near Tottenham Court tube station.

Another +1 for Taylor Street, the big one in the city, I love the long black there.

The queues seem never ending recently though

One shop - the Algerian Coffee Store on Old Compton Street.
Over 150 years old. Try the cardomom coffee.
Tell them The Coffee Locator for a possible discount!

Visited London for the first time in 5 years this past summer and the coffee scene has improved from my days living over there.

Monmouth will always be my favourite...but I would also recommend the following:

Flat White
Prufrock
Fernandez & Wells
Tapped & Packed
milkbar

There is also a London Coffee Guide which I would highly recommend.  100 coffee spots to check out in London.  Wish I would have found this prior to my trip!

Vergnano, in South Bank, just aside of the festival hall walking from waterloo to the bankside.
It's my favourite espresso in London and the service is excellent.
But then I am Italian and so biased towards that kind of espresso :D

Interestingly, the other Vergnano's franchises I have tried in London were not nearly as good and wouldn't recommend them.

As for shops, I liked the Algerian shop in Soho. Massive selection, prices are a bit high though and having asked for recommendation to one of the staff, was somewhat disappointed to learn upon paying that he didn't really like or drink coffee :D
