Hello, I have a stovetop bialetti and want a sturdy durable milk steamer independent of the espresso machine (as i cant afford a good one). Can anyone give me advice on what model to get or where to get it? (i do not want a milk foamer/frother, i want a proper steamer that will heat and foam my milk) Cheers, spikus ps. i ideally want it accessible to the UK but can arrange to get one from canada if that's better...

I'd second that question. I've been eying some of those pretty standard stove top steamers you see on ebay, but curious about their performance and whether some brands are better than others.

I have one that does not work well on my gas stove, because the heat goes around it and up the sides. I don't have a burner that is small enough or with heat directly in the center. I took mine to someone's kitchen that had an electric range, and it steamed like a commercial machine.
I'd recommend, if you have a gas stove with "sealed burners", get a steamer with its own heating source.

I'm looking for something similar, too. Has anyone else tried a stove-top steamer? What brands or features can you recommend?
We have a gas stove, but it has three different kinds of burners: a large one with gas jets on the outside and inside rings which I'm sure would be too big and would send the heat around the steamer; a small one that is basically a copy of the large one and will send the heat around as well if the bottom of the steamer is too small; a small one that looks about the same size as the one in the picture CraigA posted.
CraigA, what is the diameter of your camping burner?
JR, what is the diameter of the bottom of your steamer?
Hey SR, it works perfectly with my Moka pot & two Ibriks. It's circa 1984! Outside diameter of/to where? The outside dia of the insert that spreads out the legs is 3". The whole shebang fits in the palm of my hand & the burner itself is only 1½"!
The bottom diameter of the Old Style Ibrik from Natasha's Cafe is 4 1/4". {;-)

i forgot to clarify i am unfortunately stuck with electric hobs and i'm not looking to steam milk in a pot/pan etc but wanting a steam wand like they have with a professional espresso machine- so just the steaming wand bit without the swanky espresso bit. as in you stick it into the milk and heats/foams the milk via a jet of hot steam. cheers
