Hey all!
I'm a NZ-based barista, but am familiar with most of the UK coffee scene, having lived there a couple of years ago.
I'll be moving back to London in March, and am looking forward to meeting some of you. Have read this forum for ages now, so have a vague idea who's who.
I'm likely to be working in London, but my girlfriend is German, and living there, so I will be going back and forth a lot.

Pretty much all the roasters I know of are built in Germany. As some of the less polite threads highlighted (well, kinda), there's probably a growing demand for roasters to be imported, most likely from Germany.
What's involved in buying a roaster from overseas? I know it's a huge logistical issue here, but we're on an island in the middle of nowhere, so everything's a logistical issue.
Is there any call for some kind of bi-lingual mediator between UK roasteries and Probat and co?

Any light you knowledgeable souls might shed would be great.
Cheers!
Kyle

ps. Glad everyone kissed and made up! ;)

Probat like most German company's have some great English speakers. I found them to be very helpful and attentive.

Also La Spaziale UK are agents for them too.

Hope this helps

Hi Kyle

Ive had a very successful time importing roasters from Turkey. So far I have taken delivery of 2 roasters from Toper, and 2 from Has Garanti Degirmen.

The good thing about using these guys is a) The roasters are very cheap compared to German roasters b) The logistics was a breeze, they arranged everything and all I had to do was pay VAT to the delivery guys c) They both spoke and wrote in reasonable English.

All of the roasters were very professional and solidly made. They conformed to the UK voltage and gas supplies so were just plug and play (although I did get a guy in to do the air ducts and fit an adapter as I wanted to run the gas on LPG).
Ive had to replace one of the fans on one of the Topers, but it took me only 30 minutes (Im not a DIY guy) and Toper Fedexed it to me within 24 hours of the problem - completely free of charge (the roaster is still within warranty)

Hope that helps

Dean
