Apart from Momouth and Drury, what other roasters in London have espresso blends worth of coffeegeek standards?

You try Bullet in Covent Garden, just around the corner from monmouth, or the Tea and Coffee Plant in Portobello road, Notting Hill. So far monmouth is still the best I've tried in London, but I haven't has a play with coffee plant yet. Want to try a few of unions blends also. That should keep you going for a few days ;).

James.

Thanks for that. I just went back to Drury this morning to get some more of their Siena espresso blend, which they say is the one used in Gordon Ramsay's restaurants, but when I asked when it's been roasted he didn't know.

Turns out they don't actually roast themselves, and their beans tend to be 1-2 weeks old when they receive them, or older, he isn't quite sure... then he proceeded to open a sealed bag to give me my Siena blend...!!! I was so stunned I didn't know what to say. When I aksed how this can be fresh, he said roasted beans stay fresh for 6 months (yes, he said months, not days).

Just for good measure, he added that ground beans stay fresh for one week... all I did at that point was to say I clear out the spout of my doserless grinder in between shots to make sure I don't end up using grounds that are over 5 minutes old and left the shop.

This has been the last time I've bought from Drury. What a sad day. I really thought these guys were into coffee. Such a disappointment... who can I trust now?

Cheers, scook94! I've tried out hasbean and I've got to say, their range of single origins and blends is impressive, they roast to order, and I received their delivery less than 18 hours after placing the order. I'm impressed.

As far as I'm concerned, that's setting a new benchmark in online deliveries. Amazon is rubbish compared with that. Way to go, hasbean! From now on, no more frantic rushing to Covent Garden after work to get myself into Monmouth before their absurd postwar-era closing time of 6.30pm, that's for sure...

Try the Algerian Coffee Stores in Soho - excellent espresso blends - the veluto nero is a favourite.

Ristretto Coffee's Espresso blend is the best I've come across and brings the best out of Siliva.

Mark Anderson ensures their customer service is awesome.
