I always hear mixed reviews of parisan café's when it comes to coffee, so I figured I'd consult the parlament of global coffee geeks for answers.

Any ideas? I will most likely be near high tourism locations so keeping that in mind may help when suggesting places to go.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks for this post, Nobby!  I went to Da Zavola today.  Had my first wonderful espresso based drink in Paris, a macchiato, which was far superior to the cafe noisettes I usually order in Paris cafes..  The baristas were very friendly, and tried hard to speak English, which was difficult for them.   Communication is helped by a common interest such as coffee!  Their Victoria Arduino machine is a thing of beauty.  It was fun to watch it in action.  They also have many unique Italians specialties that are hard hard to find in Paris, such as an Amarone grappa that we bought to take to a friend.  I'm looking forward to trying some of the other places on the Time Out list in the few days I have left here.

I only got to one place worth mentioning in Paris...La Caféotheque.  Had two good visits there, they roast their own beans, have a good selection and a friendly, knowledgeable staff (in my experience).  Would recommend going out of your way to check it out, not too far from le Marais.
