fredrik_bt,

You are correct that I do not wish to travel the 500km. Yes, I am here on business but will leave Sweden tomorrow.

Thank you for the help with Pawn Shop. There was a double album made some years ago by the record company: Proprius called ''Jazz at the Pawn Shop''. The music is so so but certainly acceptable; the sonics are marvelous. Anyway, I thought it would be cool to visit the Pawn Shop if it still exists...which looks doubtful.

If you want good espresso here in Stockholm I can recommend the Sosta coffee bars. You'll find them at:

Sveavägen 84
Rörstrandsgatan 15
Jakobsbergsgatan 7

Sosta at Jakobsbergsgatan is just over a hundred meters from Stureplan. (see map)

Good luck!

About "Jazz at the pawn shop".

It was recorded at Stampen, a jazz pub in Stockholms Old Town that still exists today. Stampen is Swedish  (Stockholm) slang for pawn shop.

You can find it at Stora Nygatan 5, underground station Gamla Stan.

Thank you most kindly! I am in Stockholm until (at least) Sunday and will visit Stampen tonight (though it appears that they will have a Blues Jam Session tonight instead of ''real'' jazz. As far as coffee in Stockholm, this seems to be the ''Mother Load'' of espresso bars. See the other discussion for my comments so far.

Re: Jazz at the Pawn Shop
Woo hoo! I made it to Stampen last night. It is only 2 minutes walk from my hotel (Lady Hamilton).

Alas, there was no jazz; just a blues jam session in the upstairs pub and a 50s rock-n-roll band in the downstairs hall.

The blues dudes were 5 old white guys and they did adhear to the ''Happy Jazz Only'' sign. They had 1 sax, 1 accoustic guitar, 1 banjo, 1 drummer and a bass. They moslty played upbeat stuff and I had a great time.

The 50s band was so-so and I didn't spend much time listeing to them.

Again, thanks for the tip.

Re: The Swedish coffee scene
Well, I can't say for the rest of Sweden (having only been to Karlsgoda & Stockholm) but it appears that there is a more-than-budding coffee culture in Sweden.

I note too that 4% of all fellow Geeks are Swedish. Considering that the population in Sweden is 8 of 9 million, that is a pretty significant portion of the total population of Sweden vs. that of the USA, for instance.

Len,

One of the reasons for having so many Geeks from the Nordic countries may be that we drink A LOT of coffee.  If you look at the global coffee consumption statistics (the numbers are a bit dated but I think they still apply), the Nordic countries occupy the top four spots: http://www.coffeeresearch.org/market/consumption.htm

Unfortunately Finns are not that well represented on CG, at least not yet. I am Finnish but live in Denmark (the CG poll was asking what country one lives in...).
