I have a 6 month old Gaggia New Baby, and I'm thinking about adding a PID, and putting in an adjustable OPV to try to improve the quality of my espresso instead of upgrading machines. The problem is that I'm not very handy and would need someone to actually do the mods. Does anyone know a shop in NS or NB, I guess (preferably Halifax) that would take on a small job like this? I'm trying to avoid shipping the machine off somewhere, so driving distance from Halifax is what I'm looking for.

Check out http://www.coffeetechservices.ca owners name is Gerald Whiteway, he does a lot of servicing in Hali for cafes, not sure what his rates are like but he seems to be well recommended. Also there is a shop behind the Armview on Chebucto called Espresso Yourself the building has a different name on it but they do work on espresso equipment. Call ahead, they keep weird hours and I gues are on the road quite often. I've tried on many occasions and they have been out. I have contacted them a few times for parts and have found it cheaper to order online from other CDN retailers. Try espressoplanet a well they are super helpfull and very knowledgeable. I have ordered most of my gear from them and they are wonderfull to deal with. Cheers, Brent

Thanks for the leads, Brent. I think I will get the parts online, but will check out coffeetech and/or expresso yourself for the skilled labour. I don't think I'm up for the task.

Brought my compak to espresso yourself three times to fix my grinder after I marred the burrs......nice enough guys; seemed to think they knew what they were doing. They got me to drop it off at Armview restaurant and nobody there seemed to know it was arriving, thought it was a bit odd that they were being asked to hold it for them, yet seemed not all that surprised that the request was made and they weren't told that it was arriving. So that seemed a bit sketchy to me and I felt a bit weird about the situation.
When I picked it up, it was still broken. Brought it back twice and they tried to convince me it worked by showing me how fine it could grind beans there in the shop......but when I'd bring it home and pull a shot, only gushers....with the same beans that work fine on my vario. So I spent something like $80 and still no espresso grinder. I use it now at work for the aeropress......Pretty big price grinder to pair with an aeropress. Don't think I'd bring anything to them again, but YMMV.

Hi Diggi. Thanks for the heads-up. Two less-than-wonderful experiences from two different members (you and Brent) does make me wary. If I take the plunge on PID, it sounds like coffeetech will be the place I'll call. Again, thanks guys for your insights. It's hard to find espresso info in HRM, especially for a newbie.
