Subject: Help Finding Citric Acid In Toronto?

Hi everyone.  I'm restoring an old espresso machine and I need a whole bunch of citric acid.  I'm not having in any luck finding it in bulk.  I've tried BulkBarn and a few small wine making shops but no luck.  Can anyone tell me where to get it?  I live in Woodbridge.

Hi Jack,

A belated welcome to the Coffeegeek forums! {;-)

Where I purchase mine, I'm sure you won't find it anywhere cheaper. The company was founded in 1970 & I've been dealing with them since 1971. A 5 lb bag is only $9.95. They also have a 25kg size too. {:-D
The company is called Grain Process Enterprises.
They're moving to bigger premises in mid Jan to 105 Commander Blvd.

Grain Process Enterprises
115 Commander Blvd,
Scarborough,
Ontario.
Phone: 416-291-3226  Ext:3 for the retail store.

$10 for 5lb is quite the deal. Almost worth the drive to Scarberia.

I got my local Pharmacist to order me some a while ago - it cost me somewhere between $10 and $15 for 500g.

Gregg.

Of course it's well worth the drive Gregg, a lifetime supply for 10 bucks lol! There's lots of other items at wholesale prices too. {;-)

wow, that IS a steal.  thanks for the tip.

question: if a copper part is hard to remove (I have a few) anyone know if you can brush on a thick paste  rather than remove and soak the part?

I`ve been able to get a friend of mine at a wine store in Markham to order some - I forget the price he paid but he actually gave me a small bag of it free...

A couple concerns I have are that after using it a few times through my Giotto water reservior I seem to have somewhat `hazy`water flowing from my hot water wand. I`ve run alot of water through to clear it out - but my concern is I may have damaged the interior of the tank. AND just yesterday I soaked one of my Portafilters in a bit of citric acid and water and it removed alot of the plating. I couldn`t believe it.

Thoughts anyone.
