Looks like Canada Post did something weird with the package. It was picked up, but there's no tracking update after that, and it didn't arrive on schedule today...
I got a helpful e-mail from David Pritchard about Birds & Beans roast dates. Apparently they generally roast to order, and most stuff they ship out is a day or two post-roast. All of their coffee is roast dated, and they don't ship anything older than 7 days, though I get the impression most of what they sell is at most a few days old. You should ask for 1-2 day fresh roast in the order comments on checkout, which may occasionally delay the order slightly. I was pleased to see that they actually read the order comments; he remembered what I'd written on my decaf order.

Anyone try beans from Detour Coffee like the Bunch Buggy Espresso? It's on my to try list and I'm curious on comments. Fortunately I'm just finishing some Terroir Daterra (friend brought back from Boston).

Well, this is a pretty damn tasty blend. Absolutely night and day vs. my experience with home-roasted Donkey Blend. Still looks like decaf on the pull (very little tiger striping, hard to tell when it blondes), but the shots are much easier to make, and taste awesome. I can tell my Hottop original is not up to roasting decaf espresso.
The 5lb orders come in a 5lb sealed bag, so you need some bags to transfer them to if you want to keep it fresh. I put 4lbs in separate valved bags and froze it, and I'm quickly making my way through the other pound. I've been making straight shots and cappuccinos. I wouldn't call it a particularly assertive blend for milk drinks, but I quite like it.
My order was roasted and shipped the same day I ordered. It would have been here the next day if Canada Post hadn't messed up. That is definitely good service. I'll probably try their regular espresso blend next week.

I have not been to Detour yet, but since it's owned and operated by a CoffeeGeek, it's definitely on my list. Very much looking forward to getting there.
They do a very nice job on single origin roasting. I often like to blend equal parts of their Timor Maubese and Guatemala Huehuetenango. As espresso, a blend of these two is very sweet and soft. From there, I sometimes add a Brasil and/or some Indonesian for some lower notes, and a bit of Yirgacheffe for some high notes. They have a lot to choose from among the Brasils - my favourites are the Poco Fundo and the Villa Borghese.
There's a lot to experiment with, and it can be fun to build your own blends from their selection.

Had some punch buggy espresso over the weekend, and posted a review in the espresso blends section. Would be interested in others opinions if they tried it. I might have been jaded by the buying experience.

Had the pleasure of having some Sidamo from Detour. I was quite wowed by it. Posted my thoughts on the other thread, but thought I would let people know here as well. I am definitely going to be trying more Ethiopian SO from Detour.

Just finished a half pound of Espresso Blend from Birds and Beans in Toronto. Both the decaf and regular are very nice. Nice little shop they have there. I'll definitely go back to try some of their SO's.
