If you want to know for certain, ask in a French forum: http://expresso.cultureforum.net/ From what I've read, "le tamper" is frequently used and google.fr finds plenty of matches:
Though according to this page, it's not good French:
Le tamper est l’accessoire idéal pour tasser la mouture du café. Ce Tamper (Traduire comprimeur ou tasseur à café en bon français) plat de la marque B the B dispose d’un diamètre de 53 mm

Tasse-café is a little «commun», but says it all. Pressoir is used for grapes or other fruits. Tamper is french like parking, shopping, store, newsletter, bypass, etc. Just put a «le» or a «la» before it and you're done. Works only in France, though.

Ciao Philippe, I've been selling espresso machines in Montreal and I have always used the word "pressoir" when referring to a tamper. My clients understand me clearly and it seems as the most proper translation (to my opinion). JF
