Hey, Greg!
I did read the mention of your place in Winchester with some interest. How's business? I don't think that I was welcomed, either, but then I didn't really make an introductory post when I finally signed in a little after you.
I'm leaving the door open for Craig ... he was officially here before you (just a wee bit) :-)

You probably have the name right: Byward Café is in the Byward Market Square complex, next to a chocolatier(?), though I've never actually ordered coffee there (iirc, maybe once). Will have to keep that in mind.
A few other places around the market, including Planet Coffee (between George and York, a half a block and one building to the west of where you were).
When you're by Francesco's in Westboro, ask if Pietro is around. Edit: If you are conducting a crawl, don't forget Caffe Mio in between the bagelshop and Francesco's.
Most coffee people in Ottawa have a love/hate relationship with Bridgehead. I've been a regular down at their Wellington and Richmond locations for a few years now, and love the atmosphere, the ethic and the dark roasts. I guess I really appreciate the Bridgehead community as much as the coffee! For me, it's as much of a hangout as a place to enjoy an excellent cup of fairly-traded organic brew. I will, however, agree that their espresso isn't the greatest. You might want to try some of their coffees, they're quite unique and generally robust.
Just curious -- are you at Carleton? I'm there finishing up a Geography degree.
Jessica, just curious if you ever went to the Bagelshop. I stopped working there about a month ago and I'd be curious to see how the espresso preparation is going these days.
Hopefully it hasn't all fallen apart without me! I'd like to think they're still grinding to order and using the HX properly. They may be using Illy, which coffeegeeks certainly frown upon, but the espresso we were serving there when I worked was far better than anything I had during the two weeks I just spent in Italy.
Well it's unfortunate to hear that everything has gone downhill at the OBS. I'm not totally surprised to hear it, but it's a shame that they aren't even grinding to order or cleaning the PF's anymore. And 10 second shots... they must already have all new staff. Oh well.
I'll be back in Ottawa sometime next Summer, probably in July. I'll pick up a job again then but probably at another location that's actually a real coffee bar.
I hope you're enjoying life at Carleton. I was there for 2 years and will be back again next year. I have some friends in Mass Comm who seem to like the program. How are the Unicentre renovations going? It was a huge mess when I was there over the summer. No more Olivers =(
