After five weeks of muckin' around, the new espresso machine finally arrived today - a Gaggia Classic as the title suggests.
Originally supposed to come from Australia from Ebay, it eventually ended up coming from Amazon UK. Seems the dude in Oz had none in stock and it got sent from Angle Tear instead.
First attempt didn't arrive for some unknown reason. Second attempt did, courtesy of UPS.
Took it home, primed and flushed it, made a cup using the supplied pressurised basket and went straight to Espresso Road for an unpressurised basket. Tried that. Better coffee but still not stellar. So took off the lid and reduced the setting on the OPV (about five minutes to do). Better still. Had to stop testing at that point since all that coffee was exaggerating the usual tremor to the point that my teeth were threatening to fall out...
Grinder ATM is a Sunbeam - quite good for a domestic according to all reports. It is "borrowed" (coughcough) from my daughter.... Does a reasonable job as far as I can tell so far but since it isn't mine, it will be replaced before long. Probably with an Ascaso i-Steel. Will have to see what the budget will bear.
Given that I've only had it 36 hours, it is producing a reasonable cup of espresso - which is all I drink. Never muck around with this milk stuff. No temp surfing as yet. As you say, one variable at a time.
