No problem - I appreciate your commitment while hiking - if I was looking too I would probably start with a sampling of the SBX Via packs since they populate the top five fairly heavily. Enjoy your trip!
I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?
I didn't mean to offend. The Starbucks instant is still freeze-dried, and I wouldn't consider it coffee, but at least it's made with some real coffee (Real, not good, mind you). But if it's not an option in your mind to bring along the real stuff, then I suppose it's as little of a compromise as you're going to get, IMHO.

I ended up enjoying most Starbuckís VIA medium roast Columbian. I also tried their light roast Veranda Blend. Iím typically a light roast drinker but the light roast didnít stand up to the rigors of instant coffee as well as the medium. Donít misinterpret that the Columbian was actually good; it was adequate at 10,000 feet on the John Muir Trail after (sort of) sleeping in a tent on the ground. Thanks, all, for your input.
