Hi guys, I have just arrived here and thought I would make a quick intro.
I was posting at another site that was mainly frequented by home roasters but became a bit jaded after having my posts edited due to perceived soapboxing of causes and mentioning other companies that were in competition with site sponsors. So until I read this sites posting policy or you guys point me in the right direction, I wont risk mentioning any of my suppliers etc.
I am new to the Barista game hence the nickname.
I had been developing a business plan for a Coffee business for over a year, intially based on a Mobile Van, then when I decided that didnt stack up for me I seriously considered the Drive Thru thing, which I then spent the next 4 months working on, thats another story, suffice to say that securing a site in or around my area is a big challenge. During this time I worked for a short period at Core Espresso in Perth CBD which I tried to buy towards the end but couldnt tempt the owner. About 9 weeks ago I got tired of the delays with all the planning and decided to jump into a small Cafe to get my feet wet and have a crack at something small scale before moving onto something bigger.
At the risk of turning this into a "Commercial" post I'll stop there.
I have already spent a few hours tonight reading articles on this site and I look forward to learning more and developing more Barista wisdom as I interact with you guys.

Hi Brett,
First of all, welcome to this forum and congratulations on your business plan.
This site's posting policies are - hopefully - pretty clear. The forum rules are pretty simple and are displayed at the bottom of your screen every time that you go to post. In addition, the FAQ also provides a bit of information. I suppose that the only thing that really attracts controversy is what, exactly, amounts to a commercial post. A good guide is that if you somehow stand to benefit financially from the post, other than as someone occasionally selling some gear in the Buy/Sell forum, it is a no-no. The mod team tends to relax the rule for businesses that want to announce a special event or, perhaps, if the poster is responding to something that requires technical knowledge or a request for a product that is hard to find. There is always some smart-alec who wants to try to be black-letter about any exceptions that are made to the commercial posting policy, so, for that reason, I will point out that what I have offered is not intended to be an exhaustive statement that is binding on the moderators ;P
If you would like to let us know a bit about your current operation, that would probably be fine. I'll gaze into the crystal ball and guess that you're using 5 senses, seeing as you're in Rockingham, you worked at Core and the equipment in your profile is stuff that they sell. Dollars to doughnuts, I guess that means a Synesso at your cafe - I bet that 5 Senses would have been clever enough to snap up a bunch of them whilst the $AUD was high against the $USD! Correct me if I'm wrong.
I have to say that Core was awesome both for coffee, as a place to work and as a business to own. It was a little hard to believe that Corey sold it, but totally unsurprising to see him seemingly doing it bigger and better at Epic. (I say seemingly only because I haven't tried their coffee, but Core rocked for the two and a half seconds that I spent there ;P)
The posting tendencies on this forum have fluctuated a fair bit since I first discovered it. The one thing that has remained constant is that this forum has a lot of posters - and lurkers - who are in the industry. Hopefully you will find that this results in some productive responses to anything that you might post.
I would just add that I hope that you don't stop from posting on and enjoying the other site to which you refer. I am a moderator of this site, which I guess is a competitor in a way, and have communicated my opposition to the policies on that site to the owner. Nonetheless, I respect their policies and I continue to enjoy reading, posting on and buying from that site. (As I hope that people do on this site.)
As with all things on the internet, and particularly on the coffee-related webpages, a little bit of common-sense on reading and posting goes a long way.

Thanks for the welcome Luca.
You are pretty much on the mark with some of your guestimations, I guess locals who want to know where I am can PM me.
The interesting thing about the "other" site was that I made no reference to my business, I was actually talking about a not for profit missionary type activity that myself and a couple of companies had supported. That particular venture was visiting several Capital cities and was also looking for Volunteer baristas. I thought it was a good cause and was whacked for posting it though it was all not for profit and plainly so. I couldnt even mention where I did my training and how good it was because of commercial clashes with site sponsors. I also didnt like that posts were edited or deleted. If that was the case nothing I read on the site held any weight as it was like living in a Communist state where they only let you hear what "they" think is good for you. I'll climb done off my soapbox now and promise to "behave" myself here :)

Hi Brett,
I'm a barista that lives in the Rockingham area but works in Perth. I'd love to come down and have a coffee with you and chat about what you are doing. Have you taken over the cafe at Murdoch Uni? I had a coffee there recently as I saw it had changed hands as I drove past and it was one of the better coffees I've had south of Perth. Coffeegeek doesn't have a PM function and you haven't listed your email as public in you info, so send me an email and let me know where you are and a good time to come and check out your store. ang_k@iprimus.com.au
